Familiar family drama buoyed by strong performances. Teenager Cole McKay (Angarano) is a promising high school baseball pitcher growing up in South Boston. His dad Desmond (Gleeson) is an unemployed drinker, his mother Margaret (Leo) holds to the illusion that they are a decent Catholic family, and his older sister Kathleen (Van Camp) is unmarried and pregnant. But the biggest problem for Cole is violent elder brother Terry (Guiry), who's drifted into drugs and crime and wants to drag Cole down with him.
