Has-been pop star Gary (Freeman) composes commercial jingles and lives in Manhattan with his nagging girlfriend Dora (Paltrow). But Gary transcends his humdrum existence in his own mind with Anna (Cruz), literally the girl of his dreams--and she's more than happy to cater to his every whim. After a frustrated Dora skips town, Gary hires dream expert Mel (DeVito) to find Anna. Mel delivers model Melodia, who hardly lives up to her dreamy counterpart. Director Jake Paltrow's (yes, Gwyneth's brother) feature debut has some clever moments and film-student charm, but never quite manages to keep the rest of us awake.
