Moving freely between reality and fantasy, Saura portrays the complexities of childhood emotions through the grief of 8-year-old Ana (Torrent), who lives in Madrid and conjures her mother's ghost (Chaplin), as well as the struggles of Spain's middle class under fascist rule. Well-scripted, beautifully written and acted, the title is derived from the Spanish proverb: "Raise ravens and they'll peck out your eyes." Spanish with subtitles.
