Director Rob Zombie trades suspense and chills for action and shock in this remake of the classic 1970s horror movie and loses what made the original so scary in the first place. The tale is essentially the same, but this time crazed serial killer Michael Myers (Mane) gets an extended backstory, complete with a goodhearted stripper mom (Moon-Zombie) and evil step-dad (Forsythe). Once we get to the actual story, in which Myers stalks and murders his long-lost sister's (Taylor-Compton) friends, it's been shortened so much that there's barely any time to build any tension, instead just going for your standard action-crazed stabfest. Diehard fans will deem it far better than most of the films in this series, but it doesn't hold a candle to the original.
