Tarantino's half of the "Grindhouse" double bill features the best and worst of his creative impulses. Q creepily indulges foot and cheerleader fetishes, and overdoses on the dialogue-heavy scenes that have become his stock-in-trade, but in this instance just delay the action that everyone came to see. He pays homage to the slasher drive-in flicks of his youth with this tale of Stuntman Mike (Russell), who stalks his (always female) victims using his souped-up and reinforced muscle cars. The extended, and exciting chase scene that closes the film comes ohsoclose to making up for Tarantino's transgressions that led up to it. It is, in fact, one of the best car chase sequences put to film.
