Formulaic sports drama that's still ingratiating. In 1978, the soccer-mad Bowen family suffers a tragedy when varsity star Johnny (Soffer) dies in a car crash. His rebellious 15-year-old sister Gracie (a winning Schroeder) is determined to replace him on the team. Everyone's discouraging, citing the "girls aren't tough enough to play with the boys" and "sexuality of female athletes is well suspect" arguments. But Gracie is stubborn as well as talented. Loosely based on a real-life tragedy in the Shue family.
