Huck Cheever (Bana) is a talented poker player who makes his living fleecing tourists in Las Vegas but dreams of making it big in the World Championship (Series) of Poker. Unfortunately, his emotions usually get in the way, especially when it comes to dealing with his deadbeat father, L.C. (Duvall), who becomes his poker arch-nemesis. On his way to a showdown with Dad, Huck alternately romances and rips off struggling lounge singer Billie (Barrymore). Hansen obviously loves his characters, poker, and the eccentrics that make up Las Vegas's underbelly, but it's not enough to help this movie's desperate identity crisis. Had it not sat on the shelf through the boom of the poker craze this would have been a better-than-standard poker movie; instead, it's a weak romantic drama with a cast and director who should have created something much better.
