Generally misbegotten female family saga from director Marshall takes a decided turn into the unpleasant. Rebellious troubled teen Rachel (Lohan) finally screws up so badly that her alcoholic mom Lily (Huffman) sends her off for a summer of tough love at her own estranged mother Georgia's (Fonda) small-town home in Idaho Mormon territory. Rachel proceeds to be both outrageous and obnoxious, casually revealing that she's been molested by stepdad Arnold (Elwes), although she's such a liar no one knows what to believe. Then Lily shows up, also seeking a safe haven and adding to the family tension. Yes, this is the film where Lohan's own outrageous and obnoxious behavior drew public reprimands from the producer and others.
