Tough story based on a true incident and best seen by adults despite its MPAA rating. Six-year-old Vanya (solemnly appealing Spiridonov) has been deposited in a bleak Russian orphanage by his mother. His luck is apparently changing when a rich Italian couple offer to buy him from the home's corrupt adoption broker, known only as Madam (Kuznetsova). While waiting for the red tape to untangle, Vanya decides he wants to find his birth mom and, armed with an old address from his stolen files, he hits the road pursued by Madam and her lackey, who don't want to lose a sale. Russian with subtitles.
