The Wicker Man
What was originally creepily foreboding (with a shocker ending) has turned into a laughable muddle in this remake of the 1973 Brit horror pic. An overwrought Cage stars as troubled cop Edward Malus, who looks into the disappearance of ex-fiance Willow's (Beahan) young daughter. This involves traveling to an isolated island community off the Washington coast, where Malus discovers a matriarchal community of beekeepers led by Sister Summerisle (Burstyn) practicing pagan goddess rites. Why LaBute wanted to do this story in the first place is a bigger mystery than why it turned out so badly.
