Nolan reunites with his "Batman Begins" stars Bale and Caine in this perplexing, complicated, and lavish period mystery that focuses on the increasingly violent rivalry between two London magicians. Posh Robert Angier (Jackman) is the more natural showman while Cockney Alfred Borden (Bale) is the risk taker; both are mentored by the conciliatory Cutter (Caine). One of Borden's risks causes the death of Robert's wife Julia (Perabo) and their feud is on. Eventually it will involve Alfred's unhappy missus, Sarah (Hall), lush magician's assistant Olivia (Johansson), reclusive inventor Nikola Tesla (Bowie), and murder. Situations turn fantastical but clues are apparent if you pay attention. Definitely worth a second look.
