Director Gerard's nostalgic semi-autobiographical tale centers around a nameless 8-year-old boy (Mendez) who lives in the town of Holguin, Cuba, in 1958. The boy loves the movies but in the middle of watching the thriller "Julie" (with Doris Day), guerrillas cut the power, foreshadowing the revolution about to take place. This situation eventually leads to a meeting between the boy and a beautiful blonde American woman (Hjejle) who has some unexpected ties to his grandfather, Che (Keitel).
