The second installment of Disney's amusement-park-ride-turned-flick finds Capt. Jack Sparrow (Depp) swishing and swashbuckling in and out of one perilous predicament after another. This time he must contend with a ghost ship full of half-men/half-sea creatures in an attempt to repay a debt. This absurdly long chapter serves up plenty of Depp hamming up one scene more than the next, with little substance nor a meaningful story, and seems to aspire merely to showing off the tens of millions likely spent on CGI and special effects. Somewhat effective follow-up doesn't have the charm of the first. This and the third installment were shot back-to-back.
Movie goes off in too many directions. lrademac07 at 2008-04-14 14:10:58
If you have never seen the previous Pirates film this movie would seem disjointed at best. Its clearly set up as filler for the 1st and last movies. It is far better than the 3rd movie in the series, however not as good as the first. Main reasons to see the film are if you are like me, a fan of Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. They both really carried the film and are imho, the best actors of all 3 films in this trilogy.
