Robert Thorn (Schreiber), American ambassador to England, adopts an orphaned newborn after his own son dies, without telling his fragile wife Katherine (Stiles). Damien (newcomer Davey-Fitzpatrick) grows into a spooky little boy looked after by overprotective nanny Mrs. Baylock (Farrow). Sinister happenings lead Thorn to believe he's raising the antichrist. The remake uses the same screenwriter--David Seltzer--as the 1976 original with some modest updates so nothing's very surprising. But it's still pretty scary (and bloody).
