The Bowery

Chuck Connors (Beery) owns a saloon on New York's Bowery in the 1890s and is a friendly rival to daredevil gambler Steve Brodie (Raft). Only things aren't so friendly when the men both fall for hard-luck dame Lucy (Wray). Connors proposes that Brodie jump off the Brooklyn Bridge (a feat he allegedly accomplished before) to impress Lucy and offers ownership of his saloon as added incentive. Cooper, who starred opposite Beery in 1931's "The Champ," plays streetwise orphan Swipes McGurk.
