Sophisticated Chicago art dealer Madeleine (Davidtz) has impulsively married enigmatic, ex-small town North Carolinian George (Nivola) and is finally about to meet her in-laws. George's homecoming is reluctant at best: his mom, Peg (Weston), is a busybody who immediately dislikes her new daughter-in-law; dad Eugene (Wilson) lives in his own quiet world; younger brother Johnny (McKenzie) is moody and resentful; and only his young and very pregnant bride Ashley (Adams) is happy and welcoming. It's a cultural and familial clash without being condescending. Pic is stolen by the delightful Adams as a sweetly wise chatterbox.
