Unhappy Parisian tale of gigantically egotistical father (Bacri) jetsetting his way around town and his plump daughter (Berry) unsuccessfully vying for his attention. She is a gifted singer, constantly tuning her voice. He is an acclaimed novelist, constantly tuning her out. He's also got a young trophy wife (Desarnauts) who gets nothing from her husband but ridicule and indifference. He wants his wife to look perfect, he wants his daughter to look like her voice sounds. French co-writers and co-stars Agnes Jaoui and Jean-Pierre Bacri craft a poignant, unpredictable film defying stereotype. Awarded best screenplay at Cannes.
