Awfully nice girl from Venice Beach (Lopez) has a whirlwind courtship and romance with an Adonis-like surgeon (Vartan) but meets with great resistance from his has-been television reporter mother (Fonda) upon the announcement of their engagement. A bevy of battles to put-down or one-up one another ensues. Lopez's character is nothing new, Vartan shows no personality, and although Fonda makes the atrocious behavior of her character palatable, one still wonders why she choose this one-dimensional and craven comedy for a comeback.
