Average Jimmy O'Brien (Whaley) vents the frustrations of his humble daily life at open mike night at a comedy club. But his routine isn't about jokes--his monologues are painful confessions about thwarted dreams, which only get worse when his fed-up wife Annie (Gugino) leaves. Whaley's at his best in the club scenes but they tend to overwhelm the rest of film.
