Coming-of-age drama based on the 1994 novel by Kirsty Gunn. In 1972, 13-year-old Janey (Fulford-Wierzbicki) is spending the summer at a New Zealand beach cottage with her depressed mom Kate (Peirse), ineffectual father Ed (Browning), and her younger brother, Jim (Murphy). Trouble comes in the form of too much booze and the attentions of photographer Cady (Csokas), who not only catches Kate's eye but blossoming Janey's as well. Tensions build as the betrayals multiply.
