The Red Sneakers

Reggie Reynolds (Pappion) is a high-school math whiz who figures he'll get more respect as a basketball star. He meets junkman Zeke (Hines), who gives Reggie a pair of worn red high-tops that he insists were worn by a legendary Harlem hoopster. When Reggie puts the shoes on, he suddenly seems to have inherited all the skill of their former owner and is suddenly drawing lots of attention as a star player. But there's a price to be paid.
