Hawke's directorial debut features wife Thurman as one of the would-be artists living at the legendary (and seedy) Chelsea Hotel. There's a variety of struggling writers, musicians, and artists who all have romantic dilemmas and substance abuse problems as well. Lots of chatter and atmosphere but the characters are all walking cliches.
