Solid made-for-TV entry into the pantheon of Anne Frank pathos, legend, or tragedy--take your pick. Romanian-born director Robert Dornhelm does his best work to date by taking a more intimate look at the day-to-day life of the young Anne Frank (played with great precision by Hannah Taylor-Gordon) during the years she and her family spent in hiding from the German invaders. Anne, as a human being, is fleshed out and painted with more detail than in other bio-pics covering the same ground (story is based on Melissa Muller's biography, and not on the famous diary). This has the effect of making her ultimate fate at Auschwitz all the more painful.
