The Deep End

Moms are used to cleaning up their kids' messes and Margaret Hall (Swinton) is no different, even if her situation is. Margaret lives with her three kids and cranky father-in-law in a quiet Lake Tahoe community. Her naval husband is away, which means when Margaret learns that teenaged son Beau (Tucker) is gay and involved with sleazy older bar owner, Darby (Lucas), she has no one to turn to. Things get tricky when Darby turns up dead on the beach and mom thinks son did the deed. She gets rid of the body but is soon being blackmailed by slick stranger Alek (Visnjic). Swinton is amazing as the woman who has no limits when it comes to maternal care. Based on Elizabeth Sanxay Holding's 1947 novel "The Blank Wall," which was previously filmed by Max Ophuls in 1949 as "The Reckless Moment."
