Under the Sand

Middleaged Marie (Rampling) has been married for many years to Jean (Cremer). They are vacationing at their summer house and Jean goes for a swim while Marie takes a nap. When she awakens, he has disappeared. A search reveals nothing and Marie must eventually return to Paris and try to go on with her life. But Marie is deep in denial--she speaks as if Jean were still alive and, in fact, she continues to see and interact with--well, whatever spirit of Jean that she has conjured up.
