So you've got this petite, sunny-faced Texan playing a "singleton" Brit who drinks and smokes and consumes too many calories and has man trouble and is the beloved heroine of Helen Fielding's novel. No wonder the English got a little upset--not, as it turns out, for any good reason since Zellweger is fab as Bridget tries to take control of her chaotic life. Of course having a romp with your caddish, clever boss Daniel Cleaver (Grant) and ignoring the handsome but apparently stuffy Mark Darcy (Firth) isn't a good start but Bridget--bless her--does try. The movie is truncated (to the detriment of Bridget's friendships) but it still works.
Bridget Jones is the cheerleader for singletons around the world!
The movie is not as good as the book...big surprise! However, I think the movie manages to stand on its own and is a valentine to singletons everywhere!
Smug married people make me sad!
This year's resolutions: Stop smoking. Stop drinking. Find inner poise. Go to gym three times a week. Don't flirt with boss. Reduce thighs. Learn to love thighs. Forget about thighs. Stop making lists.
