Ashes of Time

Mystical, brooding, and sumptiously lensed martial arts epic was filmed in mainland China, with respect paid to Sergio Leone. A swordsman, played by Tony Leung, is going blind and wants to see his wife one last time before the lights go out completely. Another, played by the other Tony Leung, possesses a magic wine that allows him to forget his haunted past. The two swordsmen are hired to kill and protect, respectively, the same person. The plot simmers and occasionally explodes into chaotic action peppered with sparkling geysers and such.
