The second of Mehta's projected trilogy (after 1997's "Fire"), "Earth" follows the events surrounding the partitioning of India in 1947, forcing neighbors to take sides in a ferocious religious conflict. The story is seen through the eyes of eight-year-old Lenny (Sthna), the daughter of a wealthy Parsi family in Lahore who are trying to remain neutral. But Lenny is cared for by her lovely Hindu nanny, Shanta (Das), whose Muslim suitors are deeply affected by the violence. Based on the novel "Cracking India" by Bapsi Sidhwa. Hindi, Urdu, Parsi, and Punjabi with subtitles.
