Remake of the 1959 anti-nuke film (based on the 1957 novel by Nevil Shute) is well-acted but so low-key that it never generates real tension. In 2006, the bomb has been dropped and Australia is the current refuge and the destination of sub commander Dwight Towers (Assante). A radio transmission from Alaska offers some hope but Towers needs the help of Melbourne scientist Julian Osborne (Brown), who happens to be the ex- of Towers' sultry love, Moira (Ward).
