Elliott is perfectly cast in this true story of legendary lawman-turned-moviemaker Bill Tilghman. Tilghman was connected to the Earp Brothers and then segued into early filmmaking, trying to produce authentic silent westerns in what turned out to be an ill-fated venture. In 1924, toward the end of his life, Tilghman is called upon by the law-abiding citizens of oil-rich boomtown Cromwell, Oklahoma to clean up its dens of iniquity. But Tilghman finds himself unexpectedly opposed by corrupt federal agent Wiley (Howard).
