Went to Coney Island on a Mission from God… Be Back by Five
Daniel (Cryer), Stan (Stear), and Richie (Baez) were all best neighborhood friends while growing up in Brooklyn. Now it's years later and Stan and Daniel have lost touch with Richie, whom they hear is a mentally ill vagrant living under the boardwalk at Coney Island. So they decide to ditch their boring lives and track him down. Flashbacks to earlier incidents get confusing if not tedious.
Although this movie oddly mixes humor (growing up in the 80s) and some heavy issues (homelessness, mental illness), it seems to work. Great script about life, growing up and responsibilty, with a poignant ending that reminds the viewer that as much as one would like to help, sometimes it doesn't work out as planned. Great to see this finally released on DVD, as it was out of print for many years.
