Cruel Intentions
Fourth film adaptation of Choderlos de Loclos's 1782 novel "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" takes the tale of seduction and intrigue from the 18th century French court to a modern Manhattan prep school. Think "I Know Who You Did Last Summer." Gellar plays teen vamp Kathryn, who bets her stepbrother Sebastian (Phillipe) a night of passion against his car that he can't deflower the virginal Annette (Witherspoon). The overall effect is like the characters' lives: full of guilty pleasures.
