Stone is a tough gal gunslinger out to avenge the murder of her father. Ellen arrives in the frontier town of Redemption where arch-villain Herod (Hackman) rules by means of violence and intimidation. Director Raimi packs in so many cliches that you're amazed that it's not a parody of the spaghetti westerns it tries to emulate. Maybe if Stone and Raimi didn't take this film so seriously, it would have been a better movie, but it's still an entertaining one. Just sit back and enjoy the wildly staged gunfights, interesting camera angles, and excellent work by Hackman and Crowe.
