Hello again Mr Carpenter

Although perfectly suited for the small screen, there is no reason why Carpenter couldn't re-visit this 60 minute chiller and make it into a movie. The script kind of runs along the same lines as Roman Polanski's THE NINTH GATE and also is not dis-similar to Carpenters own IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS - only it's not a book the leading character has been hired to find, but a movie that when watched turns the viewer into a blood-thirsty maniac. John's son Cody does the score and it's suitably haunting; the performances are just as lively and enthusiastic as you would expect and it's quite grusome for a TV episode, so you won't feel cheated! It's certainly better than Carpenter's second episode for MASTERS OF HORROR which was called PRO-LIFE.

John Carpenter turns David-Lynchian in this great short film in Showtime's fabulous "Masters of Horror" series (season 1). Uber-rare cult film "Le Absolue fin du Monde" (The Absolute End of the World) is a film sought after by many collectors, and an enterprising young film theater owner takes on the job of finding it, paid by a rich, eccentric collector (played creepy as ever by Udo Kier). The film is many things to many people, but the one thing in common with those who are seeking it or have actually seen it, is the horrible changes they undergo after viewing it. Great premise, strangely chilling, and could have been made a full-length feature.
