One of my Favorites

I love this movie! The book went into a lot of description along the way - but seemed to drag for me. The movie summed up the struggle that each character faces, while making you ache for them to be together. This is my favorite role for Renee Zellweger.

This is neither one of Dustin Hoffman's nor Natalie Portman's best movies. Dustin Hoffman doesn't play the snappy way he usually does, and Natalie Portman is too sweet. DON'T SEE IT!

The last made film of the legendary Star Wars brings great hopes, that will be full filled. Don't forget to take some ice cream or popcorn, because once you start watching there's no stopping. Prepare yourself for a film of an epic battle between good and evil.

superb action in a lackluster film
Reviewed by Axellion for Brothers at 2010-03-09 16:08:02
The bond of brotherhood runs deep; a bond that is nearly unshakable. One brother returns from prison to a future uncertain a past to forget, one brother is sent to war, leaving his wife and family. Brothers is about the changes that happen, the uncertainty of emotions, the strength of Brotherhood. One brother is lost, declared dead. His brother finds the connection that was lost in him, finds a family to protect, to love, building powerful connections with the family he never had, through their grief and morning. A lost brother surviving the odds, taking extraordinary steps to see his family again, the dead returns, himself altered, his family not the same. No one truly survives war; no one can be trained to watch another die. Murder can not be taught. The ravages of war are those of the soul. A brother returns and comes face to face with who he was and what he has become. Brothers is a small film, this is not a grand production, despite the presence of three extraordinary young actors, the story failed to enthrall me. Natalie Portman gives another great subtle performance as the grieving war widow, she struggles with the loss of her husband, and fights with her own mixed feelings over her brother in law, finally finding her life turned on its head once again by the unlikely return of a changed man. Jake Gyllenhall plays the brother returning from prison to a life unlived, he finds new meaning in the adopted family of his missing brother, in this family he sees what he has missed, and the difficult feelings that develop with his sister in law. Tobey Maguire?s loving father turned victim of war is very moving, his being is warped my conflict and violence, the life he lived no longer makes sense in light of his actions on the battlefield, Under attack by feelings of jealousy, regret, and anger. His transformation from a loving honorable father into a tortured emotional wreck is worth of praise. As a whole I found the film to be slightly disappointing, it never rose from the shadows of the actors it presented. There performances were powerfully, giving gravity to the parts they played, but the film suffers with a lack of development. The plot is simple, minor characters are not well defined, the entire film seemed focused on its actor to a fault. Outside of my admiration for the talent on display I was not captivated. Worthy of viewing to witness the future of Hollywood on display, the film was lackluster beyond its talent.

Birth of Darth Vader

The main reason I enjoyed this movie was to see the birth of Darth Vader. Again the choice of Hayden Christensen as the role of Anakin was not much to be enjoyed. Overall the movie was better than Ep1 and 2 and gave a convincing tie to the Classic Trilogy.

I would change One item... Hayden Christensen

SWAoTC was a good movie. Much better than SWPM. I enjoyed it again, because of the back story of much loved characters. It is not as good as the Classic Trilogy, but a True Lucas/Star Wars fan should not discount the film entirely. Hayden Christensen is the absolute worst choice for Anakin Skywalker. Its sad Mr. Christensen is a pretty bad actor, even in other roles (the 2008 Jumper). I wish someone would invent a time machine, and go back and convince Lucas to recast Anakin. Oh well. :D

Fan verions are better
Reviewed by lrademac07 for Star Wars: Episode 1--The Phantom Menace at 2008-04-14 13:42:19
I've seen many Fan versions of SWI and they are better than Lucas' version. I liked the movie as it gives good back story to many characters that I loved in the Classic Trilogy. Jar Jar is not as bad as some people suggest, the voice is terrible, but the character is annoying at worst. I hope some one will do a Re-imagining of SWI someday.

Not for the faint of heart

This is an intense, very grown-up look at love, infidelity, manipulation, and dysfunctional relationships. No character in this movie is entirely sympathetic but I still found myself drawn into their plights. Clive Owen is amazing and frighteningly intense. And Natalie Portman broke my heart in one scene. Don't go into this movie looking for a happy ending.

There are many things you can do to bring a toy store to life, and this movie did it well. There wasn't too much of a plot going on, and no big surprises. My 7-year-old niece loved it.

George Lucas falls apart
Reviewed by PaleRider for Star Wars: Episode 1--The Phantom Menace at 2008-03-10 11:33:05
Jar Jar Binks. Need I write more? After waiting so many years for more installments in the "Star Wars" series, fans are disappointed with a childlike, naive, lame story, lame characters, lame dialogue. This film contains tons of positive elements and much potential, but is bad on so many other levels it's ridiculous. Couldn't Lucas surround himself with staff that would force him to realize what parts sucked? I don't get it. Can't wait for someone to remake this film.
