Everything in this movie is just wrong. Why did they change everything, why was it so stupid, why so much bad acting? I guess I was hoping for too much being a fan of the cartoon. Hopefully it can be fixed in the sequel, oh and the Baroness being Dukes fiance and from the States and no accent STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!!!!!!!!! Ok I'm fine now just need to relax and let it go.

A great anti Love story.
Reviewed by Axellion for (500 ) Days of Summer at 2010-02-28 10:16:53
500 days of summer is about love, but it is not a love story. It?s hard to describe what kind of movie it is, maybe it defies classification. Essentially it is a boy meets girl story, a story of a so called relationship. Beginning at the end, it?s told backwards and sideways. The 500 days that change one man?s life forever, make him question his lifelong beliefs and challenge his entire self. Half flash back, half dreams. The conventions of a film are shattered. It is self-aware, not giving to conventions of storytelling. Poignantly giving us a look into the mind and memories of a strange time in one young man?s life, and the women he loves, his world is tested and remade. Everything is challenged, his life and views, and also our conventions about what a love story is, and how it must be told; no set path, jumping from one time to another, from reality to imagination. Sometimes a dreamlike fantasy other times a poignant look at heart break and disillusionment. Hard to describe but easy to love, a movie that has unfortunately, fallen from sight. Joseph Gordon-Levitt deserves much praise for his quiet, heartfelt performance. Don?t let this one disappear into obscurity, it deserves to be seen and enjoyed.

Rex Lives On!
Reviewed by CaptMarc for G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra at 2009-11-21 10:38:35
Rex will live on as the infamous Cobra in G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra. Michael B. Gordon did it again as a movie writer. When will we see more of his work? I rate this movie as a five star piece of entertainment. It has all of the plot twists, love triangles, and drama that you would expect in Gone with the Wind, yet rolled into a modern scifi adventure. I'll be waiting for the obvious sequel, for this movie took great pains to set up the whole past, present, and future of Team GiJoe while delivering a stand up plot of its own. See it soon.

Surprisingly enough, I actually liked this little Disney remake--of course, I've never seen the original, but still.. It's almost charming in its own cutesy syrupy way. As per usual, Danny Glover elevates this film, and Tony Danza almost turns in a credible performance(Translation: He doesn't ruin the movie..how about that?) If you need to revel in early 90's live action Disney nostalgia, go ahead, sit through this thing.

It's Good!

According to #!@%*#.com, this movie has the distinction of being the biggest financial failure in the history of Walt Disney Pictures, and I guess it heralded the beginning of the end for traditional hand-drawn animation. I never saw it when it first came out, but having checked out the DVD, I must say, I really enjoyed it, and it made me miss those hand-drawn animated features. This movie is the best example I've seen of combining 2D and CGI animation, and I didn't even realize that the character of John Silver uses elements of both until I'd finished watching the movie and moved on to the special features. The visuals will stick with you a lot longer than the story elements, but 'Treasure Planet' made me nostalgic for the second Golden Age of Disney animation.

Hardboiled High School
Reviewed by www.BraidedThreads.blogspot.com for Brick at 2008-08-28 11:58:05
Brick" is the story of a jaded investigator attempting to unravel a mystery involving shady characters from both the upper-crust and the criminal underbelly. This is a story of murder. A story of steely, tough men and seductive, calculating women. And everyone is still in highschool. Only two adults get minimal screen time. There are many noirish elements in this film. There are shadows here and there and characters moving in and out of the darkness. The scenes by the dark tunnel are well done. The dialog is very smart. You even get to hear an old-fashioned telephone ringing. With a real bell and everything. These High School kids have the attitudes and mannerisms of world-worn adults twice or three times their age. The film is played very straight. Occassionally, the gap between the style it is invoking and the setting is so wide that we can see the playfulness underneath it all. But the filmmaker also runs the risk of the audience alternately becoming absorbed in the story and being pulled out of it by that gap between the story and its setting. Since the story is played straight, the fourth wall remains fairly intact; there are very few moments that seem to intentionally break the facade. There are two brief scenes where one character's mother shows up and her motherly presence offers a bit of a "wink" at the camera. The closest thing to parody is a scene between Brandon, the main character, and the principal of the high school, which plays a lot like a scene between Humphrey Bogart and a government official. Brandon is tough as nails, and both he and the principal play off each other, each taking their turn at disclosing and witholding information in order to gain the upper hand. Brick is pretty engaging and fun, but it is hard to be too engaged in the unfolding of its complex plot at the same time that you are having fun with irony of the whole setup. After all, shouldn't these kids actually be in school, learning things?

The Hound sums it up well
Reviewed by KHL for Brick at 2008-08-04 17:32:33
Anyone who is a fan of hardboiled and noir will love this thriller, nicely shot (no pun intended) and directed. If you can follow the dialogue (I had ask my husband, a hardboiled fan, what the heck some of it meant), you will become absorbed by the story and forget that these are *highschoolers*, and not hardened detectives or thugs. There's some nice humor in the guise of a character named 'Tug', a highly amped musclehead, and Lukas Haas is great as the head honcho, 'The Pin', a kind of dark funeral director looking guy wearing all black, with a cape, who runs his kingdom out of his oblivious Mom's basement. Joseph Gordon-Leavitt is phenomenol too as the main lead. Great film to watch multiple times, even when you already know the ending.

That Kid on 3rd Rock From the Sun...
Reviewed by KHL for Manic at 2008-04-17 17:42:17
Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Yes, he was that young kid with the long hair in that great TV show, but he's grown up now and proven he can really act. Lyle (Levitt)finds his sociopathic self locked in juvenile psych detention because he nearly killed a classmate with a baseball bat. Don Cheadle (always amazingly good, no exception here) plays the counselor trying to get through to him and the rest of the therapy group. Deschanel is excellent as fellow patient, the troubled, quiet Tracy. The camera work is fairly annoying, but I suppose it was used to good purpose, as it creates a disorienting effect. Good acting all around by many unknown young actors. Don't expect major plot development, it kind of meanders along, but does come to an ultimate conclusion.

If you are not a Shakespeare fan, or if you have no interest in how movies ideas are created, then you wouldn't know that this movie is based off William Shakespeare's play "Taming Of The Shrew." I think the move does a really good job capturing WS ideas and vision not to mention it offers a dummied down version of the actual play for people like me who hate iambic pentameter.
