Not all bad..

Shows that a step-mom can be a good person,At first the children were not very receptive of having her in their lives, She does a few "cool" things and kids learn to love and respect. It is a tearjerker and watch with a box of tissues.

If I have to hear Tom Hanks trying to figure out where he is ever again, I will never watch another one of his films. I must be missing something but this movie goes nowhere.

One of Julia Roberts' better, newer movies!

This is one of Julia Roberts' better, newer movies. It's not like those late 80s and early 90s take-offs of 1940s romance thrillers where the woman would always scream"I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME!"at her man that she'd always play in her early years.

Pretty good Western, but not great
Reviewed by The_MOW for Missouri Breaks at 2010-05-08 14:22:41
A group of outlaws, lead by "Tom Logan" (Jack Nicholson), settles into a Missouri ranch to hideout from the law. However, a powerful rancher hires a man (Marlon Brando) to run them out. The "regulator" (Brando) wipes out the entire band of outlaws, but "Tom," who decides to go straight in his pursuit of a local woman (Kathleen Lloyd). Now, the two are heading to a face-off that may be each other's last day on Earth. This is not the best movie I've seen. In fact, I noticed myself looking away from my computer screen (I watched it on Hulu) many times. I found the characters poorly written, although they were pretty well performed by the actors. They were all pretty one-dimensional, and they just didn't seem to connect with each other. The relationships between the characters just didn't work. I could not feel anything in the romantic subplot at all. In fact, I couldn't feel any chemistry between Nicholson and Lloyd at all. There was a little chemistry between Nicholson and Brando. But, because of the poor writing, they really had little to work with for their on-screen relationship. Surprisingly, the gunplay was minimal. Even when you expected a good amount of shooting, it wasn't there. There is some violence, though it's fairly mild. In the first minute of the movie, there is a fairly graphic hanging that was probably placed that early in the film for shock value. The scenery was used pretty well in this movie. It certainly wasn't overplayed. There were some scenes where the scenery was used quite well with camera angles and such. John Williams did, in my opinion, a poor job in writing the music for this film. To me, the music was more modern instrumental work, and just didn't work. In fact, despite being composed by a Hollywood legend like Williams, the soundtrack is completely forgettable. Wardrobe appeared to be authentic in this film, except the outfit Brando wore through much of the film. His outfit was a little over-the-top, but not too much to be distracting. I would have to say that if you find it online on sites like Hulu, check it out if you have nothing better to do. Other than that, don't waste your money.

The last made film of the legendary Star Wars brings great hopes, that will be full filled. Don't forget to take some ice cream or popcorn, because once you start watching there's no stopping. Prepare yourself for a film of an epic battle between good and evil.

The Best Superman Ever
Reviewed by criddic2 for Superman: The Movie at 2010-04-01 02:36:00
George Reeves was fun on TV, Brandon Routh was fine in the newer movie, but Christopher Reeve remains the actor who made the role his. And the movie is a great one, too, against all expectations at the time. Sweeping epic origin story, fantastic (for the time) effects, inspirational music from John Williams, a cast that fill each role brilliantly. Nobody plays Lex Luthor the way Hackman does. The look and feel are still majestic, permitting a sense of awe that is rare in movies.

Vastly Overrated Fantasy About Vietnam
Reviewed by shanahan for The Deer Hunter at 2009-12-18 15:42:40
While this film has some beautiful moments - mostly in the Polish community of the small Pennsylvania town - it is a vastly overrated melodrama. No one involved in the film had any experience in the Vietnam War, so there are patent misrepresentations - the bamboo cage torture, for instance, and the Russian roulette game. And it hinges on a pseudo-spiritual, but actually hoked-up notion about "one clean shot" that means . . . well, nothing. (There is also a scene in which all the Asians seem to be a mindless, hysterical mass - something sensitive viewers will find offensive.) It's sad that such talented performers gave their all to such a study in Wagnerian overkill, but their efforts don't come anywhere near redeeming the film.

A sad, oddly confused sequel
Reviewed by criddic2 for Superman 4: The Quest for Peace at 2009-08-24 04:14:47
A case of too much with too little! Too much plot (several different ideas like Nuclear disarmament, double romances and Lex Luthor creaying a sun-powered Supervillain) all thrown together without any generating enough interest to sustain the film. Add to that the poor special effects (the Salkinds abandoned the project to a cheap effects house when the budget was slashed dramatically). Reeve is deserving of praise for staying true to the character, as many have stated, and it's kind of fun to see Gene Hackman back as Lex, but it's a failure anyhow.

Not Bad, But Not Good
Reviewed by criddic2 for Superman 3 at 2009-08-24 04:09:02
Some scenes do really work here: The Smallville stuff is all kind of endearing; the oft-mentioned Good vs. Evil Superman battle, the extended computer battle near the end. Yet the excitment of the first two is missing. By getting rid of Lex Luthor, Lois Lane and others the heart of the series got lost. Effects are good, but not spectacular. Richard Pryor does what he can in a limiting role, and Robert Vaughn seems to enjoy playing the bad guy. An okay movie.

Decent Sequel

An acceptable storyline is made suspenseful by not relying too heavily on the shark for its appeal. Roy Scheider is also a welcome return. Solid, though pales in comparison to the Spielberg classic.

The Greatest Adventure Movie of All-Time
Reviewed by Skot for Raiders of the Lost Ark at 2009-04-17 13:09:13
Everyone has a point in their life where there is a choice that is made that will forever shape them. My choice was when I was 7 and my father took me to the movies to see Snow White in the theater and as we walked in the parking lot he asked me if I would rather see the other movie that was playing called "Raiders of the Lost Ark." That moment is one of my fondest memories because that cemented in me a love of adventure. The books I read, the places I go, my interests; they are all trying to make me feel like I did on that day when I was 7. God know what I would be like if I had picked Snow White...

Suffers from Genre Confusion
Reviewed by Sharkbait for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull at 2009-03-07 02:43:49
Okay, Mr. Lucas, intellectually, I understand what you claim you were trying to do here. If the first three Indy movies were an homage to 1930s adventure serials, then 'Crystal Skull' is an homage to 1950s sci-fi B-movies. Okay, but the problem is, you're still making an Indy sequel, and the two genres don't blend well. Add to that the over-use of CGI (digital ants are just not creepy like REAL snakes, giant bugs or rats), and this kinda fun movie just falters. We needed this flick 15 years ago, before the idea of what an Indy film should be got so diluted.

Brief periods of decent action and tries to be compelling & fun as the former films -- but the overdone, over-the-top action sequences just ruin these movies for me now! Can't you make action/chase scenes with some of the gritty and quasi-realistic flavor of the first Indy, and not be so "Matrix" ridiculous?

Bad for Good

123 mins #!@%*# Lester time waster. Translation? Poorly concieved plot, horrid special effects(even for the time period), plastic tongue in cheeking, some Richard Pryor mugging(he did so much better work with the right material), and some classic moments. Examples: 1. Supe vs Clark(always a fav scene), 2. Drunk Superman melting the bar mirror then staggering out to the city, being rude, etc. 3. Tower of Pisa gets a different slant via Angry Supe, 4. Richard Pryor in a pink faux Superman robe skiing off the skyscraper. Yeah. So in conclusion, aside from a few choice moments, this movie kinda blew. Movie is definitely lacks #!@%*# Donner's direction. ..but.. at least it isn't Superman IV. Less is more on that.

I'm kind of shocked that E.T. has only two paws for a community rating. I guess some of the film snobs out there tend to #!@%*# on this movie and that's fine. I have a soul, however. Just watched it again for the first time in years and it held up incredibly. I cried, I'm not going to lie. The relationship between E.T. and Elliott is wonderful, Drew Barrymore is cute and hilarious, and just the look of the film is magical. I'm not the biggest Spielberg fan in the world and even I can love this one.
