Caine is truly remarkable in this film: he plays as wide a range as one can imagine, and he does it with just enough finesse to make it a joy to watch. Olivier plays - well, Olivier. Vastly overrated as a dramatic actor, we see him play the self-important man he may actually have been. And the plot - okay, no spoilers, but this one twists and turns right up until the last moment. A must-see for anyone who likes detective stories.
