The Best Superman Ever
Reviewed by criddic2 for Superman: The Movie at 2010-04-01 02:36:00
George Reeves was fun on TV, Brandon Routh was fine in the newer movie, but Christopher Reeve remains the actor who made the role his. And the movie is a great one, too, against all expectations at the time. Sweeping epic origin story, fantastic (for the time) effects, inspirational music from John Williams, a cast that fill each role brilliantly. Nobody plays Lex Luthor the way Hackman does. The look and feel are still majestic, permitting a sense of awe that is rare in movies.

A sad, oddly confused sequel

A case of too much with too little! Too much plot (several different ideas like Nuclear disarmament, double romances and Lex Luthor creaying a sun-powered Supervillain) all thrown together without any generating enough interest to sustain the film. Add to that the poor special effects (the Salkinds abandoned the project to a cheap effects house when the budget was slashed dramatically). Reeve is deserving of praise for staying true to the character, as many have stated, and it's kind of fun to see Gene Hackman back as Lex, but it's a failure anyhow.

Great Sequel..but..

The Donner cut seemed to have a slightly more genuine feel to it.. That being said, I was raised on this version(we didn't have the luxury of different versions when this was released), and it's still fun to watch~

Stunningly underrated film

Come on Hound! This is a fabulously funny, then poignantly tragic (but not without a final smile) piece of work. Pacino is incredible and acting completely out of character, and Hackman does his Hackman thing better than anywhere else. Studio politics kept this from being distributed properly, and that's one of the untold tragedies of Hollywood. Pacino and Hackman are as good as Redford and Newman - better in certain respects. Four bones plus a kibble treat.

Wow

This movie is destined to be a real classic - just an unforgettable depiction of the West, with much more grit and realism than any of Eastwood's cult spaghetti-western classics. There's nothing to say negative about this one - just WOW
