In the film, John Hurt says "So much of life is wasted in waiting". Can't think of a better statement for this God-awful movie.

This Movie Sucks
Reviewed by lakers for Robots at 2011-01-02 01:58:16
I hate this film. This is one of the worst I have seen. I saw it 6 years ago when it came out. It was bad then because of the technology/early cgi. If you work in a retail store and someone wants to buy "Robots," give it to them for free - they shouldn't have to pay for it! This is a big fat WOOF!!

Even though this film was good, it wasn't what I expected. It was too shortened. But it did have its good parts.

The movie had so much potential...

... and yet, all of its merits are shadowed by its uneven pacing and seemingly-sloppy editing. That being said, Scorsese knows how to tell a good story, and Daniel Day-Lewis proves (once again) to be an amazing actor.

Suffers from Genre Confusion
Reviewed by Sharkbait for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull at 2009-03-07 02:43:49
Okay, Mr. Lucas, intellectually, I understand what you claim you were trying to do here. If the first three Indy movies were an homage to 1930s adventure serials, then 'Crystal Skull' is an homage to 1950s sci-fi B-movies. Okay, but the problem is, you're still making an Indy sequel, and the two genres don't blend well. Add to that the over-use of CGI (digital ants are just not creepy like REAL snakes, giant bugs or rats), and this kinda fun movie just falters. We needed this flick 15 years ago, before the idea of what an Indy film should be got so diluted.

Style Over Substance

It's obvious they started this movie with the visual ideas (as they state they did in the DVD extras). They came up with this world--which is absolutely, mind-bogglingly, beautifully rendered in the film--and then hung a paper-thin plot on it. The voice cast is pretty good (minus Halle Berry, who is just bland), but the visuals definitely stick with you longer than any of the story elements.

Lame, lame, lame

Brief periods of decent action and tries to be compelling & fun as the former films -- but the overdone, over-the-top action sequences just ruin these movies for me now! Can't you make action/chase scenes with some of the gritty and quasi-realistic flavor of the first Indy, and not be so "Matrix" ridiculous?

Gangs of New York

Hard to believe this film did not win any of its 10 Academy Award Nominations. Daniel Day-Lewis and Leonardo DiCaprio deliver with outstanding performances. Great acting from supporting cast as well. Slow at times and a bit long, but great movie overall.

Apart frm couple of sequences where we see the director's talent , the movie is not attractive. Two bones would be ok.

Hey, Dr. Jones, what happened to your adopted son, Shorty? What did you leave him back on the streets of Shanghai with Willie Scott and a promise to return after you went out and grabbed a pack of cigarettes? Not cool, man. Not cool.

Manic Musical Eye Candy
Reviewed by KHL for Moulin Rouge at 2008-03-24 17:20:18
Seeing this in the theater when it was released, there was a palpable air of 'what the...?'. A raucous, raunchy musical romp through the last year of the century in Paris. If you can get beyond the fact that you'll hear everything from Nirvana to Elton John to Air Supply (gasp!), to Wings in the cleverly constructed soundtrack, then you're fine! The more I've viewed it since that first showing, the more I enjoy it. There's so much kinetic imagery that it's hard to take it all in in one sitting. McGregor and Kidman are great (and sound pretty good too) as doomed lovers, but Broadbent and Roxburgh, as the 'ringleader' of the Moulin Rouge and the 'evil Duke' are hysterical and nearly steal the show (the best number has to be their strange and comedically menacing cover of 'Like a Virgin' by Madonna). Costumes are fantastic and while about 20 minutes could probably have been cut, it still makes for an entertaining time.

Bridget Jones is the cheerleader for singletons around the world! The movie is not as good as the book...big surprise! However, I think the movie manages to stand on its own and is a valentine to singletons everywhere! Smug married people make me sad!

Not a bad film, but entirely too long and tries to weave too much into one story. Good acting by Day-Lewis and others.
