I have read many books and critics of the Bond movies and Man With The Golden Gun is never listed as a favorite. Its usually listed near the bottom of the list. I, however really like this one. Its one of my favorite Roger Moore Bonds and ranks high on my overall Bond list also. Christopher Lee is a wonderful villan. The movie is great fun and not to be taken seriously.
This is not one of the best Bond films, but also not one of the worst. I have to admit I liked it a lot more when I first saw it years ago and find that it has not aged all that well. Its a good introduction for the Roger Moore Bonds though. It gives you a good idea of the direction the series will be taking.
This is a rare case of a very misleading plot summary by the Hound. Duval's and Sutherland's characters are secondary at best. This is the story of a German officer (Caine) punished for defying SS officers rounding up Jews, who is offered a chance to redeem himself and his squad by taking on the mission of killing Churchill. It's a good yarn, nowhere near as good as Sturges' best, but deserves and accurate summary.
