This classic seems stage bound in comparrison to the Spanisn version on the Universal Monsters Collection DVD.The Spanish version features more fluid camera work. Lugosi is the better Dracula, but the sets are the same in both versions.Edward Van Sloan is an imposing Van Helsing.David Manners and the rest of the cast do their best in this atmospheric but slow moving version of Bram Stokers novel. Both features are included on one DVD. Three stars.

High School Clique Exam, Sort Of

Also good Halloween viewing, and another underrated film. Shocking not just because of the examples of mutilation, but because of the political incorrectness of such portrayals (for today), and for a overall negative portrayal of human nature among the "Normals." 2007's "Freakshow" seems nothing more than a gorefest, not scary in comparison to the almost-mystical climax of this true original.

What's he doing with that knife?

Can anyone explain to me why the armless, legless circus performer was carrying a knife in his mouth during the fight scene? What did he intend to do with that?
