This is a stunning piece of cinematic drama. The courtroom scenes are among the best in film, the theme - played out against the backdrop of the questions raised by Vietnam - is excruciatingly difficult to resolve simply, the colors are almost watercolor in their nuance. Beresford entered the pantheon of the greats with this one.
