Made for TV Classic
Reviewed by diocrash for Alice in Wonderland at 2011-10-03 02:30:00
From the description of this entry, this is the made-for-TV version of the Lewis Carroll classic. It is probably better than the crappy Tim Burton version, because it is light hearted yet spooky. It's not surreal or wacky, which makes it that much more warped.

Redford and Wood...magical

I am biased about this movie and This Property is Condemned, because for favorite male and female actors are the stars. Wood is such a kooky, naive character and Redford is suave and experienced. A Pymalion-type movie with big twists in it. "You're Gonna Hear From Me"....this could be many a young starlet's theme song.

Solid Cast, Sweet-natured Movie

I was lucky enough to see this on a big-screen at a local theater the year it came out. Although it takes its time to tell the story, the cast is so good you probably won't mind.

Back When Horror Was Fun

This movie was made in the spirit of good fun, and benefits from not taking itself too seriously. As a result, it contains quite a bit of humor to go with the chills. McDowall is great to see, and Sarandon does a solid villain; really terrific casting here. If you want a fun time, and not just a hack-em-up job, give this one a try.

Returning to the King

After viewing this film again recently, I was more aware this time around at how self-consciously epic many aspects of these films are. I think they become more so from one film to the next. At the same time, they still work for me. The dialogue, staging, acting, and editing are earned by how big the heart of these films is. Epic hearts fill these iconic characters that call out to our hearts too. Does such nobility and grace have to exist in a fantasy narrative? Our guard is down in such a world, where our longings can come to life, and we are free to lay hold of some good in this world because of the good that exists in some other world.

Just fun

Totally agree with Turk182. I watch this every time I see it on cable. But it's better than two lame bones. It's no cinematic work of art, but it's lovable.

A Charming Movie

This is one of those movies that I'm going to watch every time I find it on cable. Hawn and Russell are excellent together and Garry Marshall even manages to overcome his own shortcomings to deliver a charming love story that everyone can enjoy.
