Exciting, Alive and Vibrant

This is the only uncut version of Shakespeare's play committed to film. As such, it is a relief to find it done so well. While not all of the star-studded cast fit too easily (Jack Lemmon is a bit ill-at-ease in a brief bit), but others fare quite well (Heston, Crystal). Excellent production design, and great performances from Branagh, Winslet, Jacobi and Christie. If you fear the 4 hour running time, the Gibson version is fine. But if you want great cinema, this is the best version.

A hilarous comedy about an unusual night at the museum
Reviewed by freakformovies for Night at the Museum at 2009-05-13 16:42:45
Night At The Museum is a hilarous comedy about Larry (Ben Stiller) an always down on his luck guy who gets ajob at The Museum of Natural History of Museum at the same night Larry gets his job at the museum something really strange happens everything in the comes to life at night and that is where all the laughter and action begins. this film is rated PG for mostly action and is totall apporpiate for ages 8+ and is 1hr. 50minutes. It is a little longer than Hotel For Dogs. But it is an entertaining, hilarous, and very enjoyable to watch.

Something's Rotten

FOUR BONES? Have you been at the dognip? This thing is ghastly! Hamlet swinging on a chandelier across the room in the final scene? Give me a break - or a poison-tipped sword. This is like a Corman send-up of Shakespeare, without any of the humor. See Mel Gibson do his wired Prince, Nicol Williamson do his haunted Prince. (Skip Olivier's self-aggrandizing Prince-as-Young-Werther.) But stay away from this bizarrely inadvertent parody: Prince-as-Doug-Fairbanks.

Insomnia
Reviewed by Sharkbait for Insomnia at 2009-04-18 12:34:13
'Insomnia' may be the least impressive of director Christopher Nolan's films (admittedly, I haven't seen his debut film, 'Following'), but the fact that it is directed by Nolan means that it is still a minor masterpiece. With the exception of 'The Dark Knight', it is the most straightforward Nolan film, with the most linear storytelling. It's a much more standard thriller than 'Memento', but it is beautifully shot and tautly told by Nolan. To date, this may be the last truly great performance that Al Pacino has given. And Robin Williams is also almost unexpectedly excellent; with the one-two punch of 'Insomnia' and 'One Hour Photo', he certainly cornered the market on "creepy". I can't wait to see Williams walk on the dark side again.

Style Over Substance

It's obvious they started this movie with the visual ideas (as they state they did in the DVD extras). They came up with this world--which is absolutely, mind-bogglingly, beautifully rendered in the film--and then hung a paper-thin plot on it. The voice cast is pretty good (minus Halle Berry, who is just bland), but the visuals definitely stick with you longer than any of the story elements.

De Niro is at his best! Williams is a tremendous serious actor. A real tear-jerker.....in my all-time top 5 favorites! I normally never watch a movie more than once, but I have watched this true story many times.

My six year old daughter was pretty scared the first time she saw the dinosaur in this movie but everything turned out fine and she has watched this at least 50 times now. Stiller as "Larry" and Owen Wilson as the miniature cowboy are a crack up in their straight-faced take of these ridiculous roles. Enjoyable pretty much from beginning to end even after the 25th viewing.
