Many thanks to the excellent Best Week Ever blog [http://http://www.bestweekever.tv] for putting John Boorman's 1974 classic Zardoz back on the Hound's radar.

One of the things we miss most about the 1970s — aside from Mummenschanz and Billy Beer — is how the success of 2001:A Space Odyssey encouraged Hollywood filmmakers to be as weird and self-indulgent as they wanted to be, all under the guise of "trying to do that Kubrick thing."

Sure, Total Film called Sean Connery's costume (a big red diaper with suspenders) the number one dumbest decision in movie history, but this is the greatest "James Bond worshipping a giant stone head" movie ever made.
