As most of the world has already heard, Australian actor Heath Ledger was found dead in his Manhattan apartment on Tuesday, January 22. He was 28 years old.

For such a young man, Ledger developed a beyond-impressive film resume, working with some of the best filmmakers of his generation.

While he'll be best remembered for his award-caliber work in such films as Brokeback Mountain and Monster's Ball , we here at Movie Retriever will always have a soft spot for the insanely-rewatchable A Knight's Tale , a movie that succeeded largely due to Ledger's on-screen charisma.

And, it should be noted that, following Jack Nicholson's career-defining performance as The Joker in "Tim Burton's Batman would" be a hard act for ANYONE to follow, but Ledger - to his very great credit - has already made the world not only accept, but rabidly anticipate his take on the Joker in Christopher Nolan's upcoming The Dark Knight, even though only a few scant minutes of the film have been released.

He was a great actor, we liked him a lot, and our heartfelt condolences go out to his friends and family.
