Awards Watch Blog - Barks With Bite Blog
Man-oh-man, the Foreign Press Association must hate the Writers Guild of America. Thanks to the WGA's ongoing strike, the booziest award show of the season essentially got cancelled this year. Because the FPA couldn't negotiate a temporary deal with the WGA (and since the FPA got into a public battle with the award show's original broadcast network NBC), the 2007 Golden Globes got reduced to a free-for-all press conference hosted by those creepy infotainment anchors from shows like Inside Edition and Entertainment Tonight .
Every time one of those oddly-coifed anchors got up to present an award, it was the same thing over and over: "Wow, I can't believe I'm presenting a Golden Globe ... boy, this sure is awkward, eh? ... of course, we all hope that the strike ends soon ... (crickets chirping) ... so, I guess, here are the nominees.…" It was a total trainwreck.
But a bunch of stars and directors got a Golden Glove FedExed to their homes the very next day, so it wasn't a total washout.
Here's the list of winners.
