Last year we ran a couple of features on Twilight. The first was called Six Excuses Grown-Ups Can Use for Going to See Twilight This Weekend. Want to know why we did that article? Well, even though most people we’ve talked to over the age of 25 about the series said they just don’t understand the appeal of Stephenie Meyer’s modern gothic romance, the truth of the matter is that everyone has gone Twilight crazy. The latest film in the series, The Twilight Saga: New Moon is the #1 movie in the country and it’s domination of the box office doesn’t seem likely to swoon anytime before the release of Avatar. So, we felt that since more than 80% of the movie going public is eventually going to see New Moon, we would provide a service to the closet fans who just don’t want to openly admit to their friends that they simply love these movies. There are still some really good suggestions in the article if you just swap the titles of the first and second films. You’re welcome.
The second piece we ran last year was a review by our resident teen film critic Celine Leduc. Celine had nothing but good things to say about the first film calling it “surprisingly funny” and even went on to say that it was “definitely something to get up and see with your best friends and silent scream when Edward Cullen comes on.” This year, Celine has apparently jumped from Team Edward over to Team Jacob, but we won’t hold that against her (and neither should you).
This year, critical reaction to New Moon has been considerably worse than it was for the last film. Even our own in-house critic gave it a lukewarm review. Since we can admit that we’re just a bunch of over-the-hill jaded movie fanboys here at the MovieRetriever offices and that we’re really not the audience the film is looking to please, we realized that we again needed a critical look at New Moon
authored by someone dead-center in the movie’s target demographic, the
kind of person that the film was made for, and, so, we once again
turned to our roving teen reviewer, Celine Leduc.
And so, without further ado ....

“New Moon is my new love. Well, it may just be the very hunky Taylor Lautner, who plays Jacob Black. New Moon is an amazing movie, even for those who have not read the books. This time, the movie matched the book, and not much was left out! It was a great interpretation. This movie’s special effects were up to par and seemed much more realistic. You want hot guys, romance, drama, action, a bit of comedy and pure awesomeness? Go see New Moon as soon as you can. I give it four and a half bones!!”
