The remarkably talented Patrick Swayze, one of the more popular movie stars from the 1980s and early 1990s and the actor who gave us the line “No one puts Baby in a corner,” died Monday, September 14 after a long battle with cancer at the young age of 57. With early turns in films like The Outsiders and Red Dawn, Swayze built an image as a sensitive tough guy. He took that role to new heights with Point Break and the incredibly successful Dirty Dancing. A career-defining role in Ghost solidified his leading man qualities. But, determined not to be typecast, Swayze took to roles like those in Too Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar and Donnie Darko and proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was indeed an actor and not just a pretty face attached to a bag of muscles and machismo. While the bulk of Swayze’s work focused on his good looks and physique, he will be remembered as one of pop culture’s more beloved actors.
